Late Friday afternoon we received a frantic call from a home owner in Pullenvale, she had been away from the house and came back to find it riddled with termite activity. We sent our technician first up Monday morning to investigate and to conduct a thorough termite inspection using a Termatrac, Moisture Meter and Thermal Imaging Camera as is standard in all of our inspections.Termite Inspection
Andy found a number of conducive conditions surrounding the home - moisture pooling at drain pipes against the house, weep holes covered by mulch, leaking taps, excess vegetation in the garden and multiple stumps close to the exterior. On top of this the home owner hadn’t had a termite inspection for 10 years as they had been told there was a termite barrier in place and that the old damage, present throughout the house, was completely normal and didn’t need to be fixed.
Pullenvale is quite a hot spot for termite activity as it’s a leafy suburb surrounded by bush land and rolling hills. With good rainfall and plenty of large older style brick homes with feature timbers, it’s a termite haven.
This particular home in Pullenvale has copped its fair share of damage - the front bedroom ensuite, walk in robe and roof void have sustained severe damage with three large termite sub-nests (Termite Mudding In Cupboard bivouacs). There is also damage to every window frame, door frame and skirting board in the front section of the home. The termites had traveled via exposed timber in the cathedral ceiling, allowing them access to all sections of the home.
We believe there are multiple entry points and therefore selected above ground baiting with Agenda from Bayer as the best solution given the extent of damage, the style of construction and the species of termite (spp. Coptotermes).
With several follow up inspections to come, we are confident that we can get on top of the situation and give the home owner their peace of mind back.
