From time to time houses creak and groan, but sometimes its more than that and we get concerned that rats, mice, possums or termites have taken up residence in the wall.

Termites create this faint high-pitched tapping sound and people often mistake it as termites eating wood. In many cases, it’s simply the migration of termites from one area to another. Termites communicate amongst each other particularly when there’s changes in weather, atmosphere or temperature. Termites are also blind and deaf and communicate through intricate sound, vibration and rhythm. These high pitched and rapid tapping noises give them away.

Termites also don’t sleep! And so they will nibble and work away 24/7, damaging your inner walls, ceilings and floors. Unlike rodents where they may create sporadic commotion and then scurry away to do something else, termites are a little more constant. It would pay to just head over to your timber walls around the home and listen closely to any commotion in the background.
