Nasutitermes termites are generally an outside kind of termite. They like to build in trees and the dark mudding of their nest makes them easy to spot. When it comes to their tastes, they avoid softer woods such as pine and go straight for the hardwoods. They prefer woods based in the ground, hence the nesting in trees.
Recently, we received a call from a customer in Dayboro. They knew something was going on inside their house and requested an inspection from one of our technicians here at Conquer Termites Northside. We sent someone out and the result left everyone a little surprised. Not only did this customer have termites inside their house - they were nasutitermes termites.
As we mentioned above, nasutitermes termites are generally found in the outdoors. This nest however had really made themselves at home indoors in Dayboro. The damage they were wreaking was evident in the window frames and the wall skirting on the property.
Luckily, our technician was able to identify the nasutitermes termites quickly. From there, they worked with the customer to completely rid the home of them.
Although we were surprised to hear about nasutitermes termites indoors, its not completely unheard of. Newer construction often uses steel framing which is a great way to avoid any termites. Older constructions like Queenslanders and cavity brick homes used timber hardwood framing though. Our customer in Dayboro had a brick home, which fell into that category.
By identifying the nasutitermes termites quickly, we were able to treat the house. While some damage was already done, this prevented it from going any further. If you suspect termites of any kind in your home - its time to talk to us. Give us a call at Conquer Termites Northside on (07) 3356 8801 today.
