There’s nothing worse than finding something in your home that shouldn’t be there. Dropped wings and flying ants are a perfect example of this. They can be enough to give anyone a headache. These could be a sign of flying termites, or better known as alates. A simple termite inspection can set you on the right path to dealing with them though.

Alates are a winged termite swarmer, which is where the other name of ‘flying termites’ comes from. They are the reproductive members of a termite colony who venture out of the nest to create new ones. They’re darker than a normal termite and have 2 sets of long wings attached. If you’ve noticed them in your home, its time to arrange a termite inspection.

If you’ve noticed alates in your home, that can mean that you have an entire termite colony within a few hundred metres of your home. A termite inspection will be able to establish the impact that is going to have on your house.

These creatures are attracted to lights. It’s not uncommon to find them congregating under your lights, especially outside. If the number you find looks to be less than 20, this is considered low risk. If you’re finding them indoors, that makes the situation a little more serious. Regardless of where you’re finding them, a termite inspection ASAP is your best course of action

That’s because if you have alates, you’re going to want them to be gone. You don’t want to give them the opportunity to create a new nest. If they’re allowed to, this could mean serious damage to your home. Here at Conquer Termites Northside, we understand the seriousness of them, and we know how to help.
