How often should I get termite inspections is a commonly asked question. In this video, Alan Ferguson from Conquer Termites Northside explains the various factors relevant to making a good decision about when to get a termite inspection.

How often should I get termite inspections in the subject to today's termite talk with Alan Ferguson from Conquer Termites north side. Alan what do we do about inspections how often do you need? Let's go back a step there is an Australian standard well okay that governs what we do and how we do it you know this is a recommendation on how best to do things now the time period between in termite inspections and the so that's when you get the fella in the blue shirt to come out with these with all these gadgets you know some moisture meters and thermal cameras and they've termatrac sand tappers and borescope goodness gracious whatever else it might come on the market yeah well all the toys been a boys toys yes to get a thorough look through your house and make sure that you you know there's nothing particularly exciting going on there depends upon the pressure that there is and we've talked previously about termite pressure on a home you know things you think threat when yeah correct okay yeah threat of the threat of infestation mm-hmm so the threat is really high if the risk is really high then you would bring it down you know the time period comes down there are some structures where we recommend every three months no okay all right you know three months six months twelve months yeah in the Australian standard it suggests an absolute minimum every 12 months you should get a termite inspection done why is that what's the thinking behind the thinking behind that is they're probably not going to do $10,000 worth of damage in 12 months oh okay all right so it's a it's about trying to it just keeps happening John hmm it just keeps happening in houses all over the place mm-hm termites getting end cause have a bit of havoc hmm and so it's that 12 monthly inspection is about minimizing the amount of damage that you have to rectify when you do find them yes yes okay so it's yeah as I mentioned there are some times we recommend a shorter time spans and that probably until such time as you've done some sort of treatment that's designed or put in a management system that's going to keep them out for you okay okay so that's that's pretty much it much it in a you know once once you've done a treatment then we we also still stick with the twelve monthly inspection because as a you know as a general principle we want our work you know we're more Network with if we put a treatment in around your home or system of bait stations always active that is designed to protect you if they get past that somehow well guess what we come back and help out we come back and get the jolly things out again she all saw you and try and figure out just exactly what's happened understand we're dealing with a living system and they can be incredibly tenacious mmm-hmm and persistent so you know and again that often that comes down to the size of the colony if it's you know the colony is that you know it's a bore this sort of diameter or one that's you know three meters long and two meters wide and out of it underneath the door or something yeah well you know underneath the floor of a house you they can be a bit frightening at times where you know people fall through floorboards and go anyway that's a that's a direct one out of a new market many years ago really so it's the the degree of pressure or threat mmm-hmm often comes down to the size of the colony and occasionally you know and that colony might lose a source of food somewhere else it's been taken away pilot timber whatever a tree mmm-hmm it disappears well the word goes out what finds it come on boys we're going to find something else to eat okay and so the troops are sent out to find the next rabbit food if neighbors have been clued up or you've become aware that neighbors have had termites in the yard or in the house or something like that that's obviously a bit of a flag well yeah absolutely what most people don't realize is I mean okay what's what's the average house furniture might be 10 15 20 meters mm-hmm okay termites the species which we have here in southeast Queensland it will easily travel a hundred metres some species will travel 150 metres hmm okay so that's if there so if your house is here then at 100 metres that could be at least five houses away yes somewhere somewhere off camera you know the that that so the threat and that's not that's not just this way or that way it's over the back fence and it's over the road okay all right sure they gave attention to roads they just dig underneath them okay mm-hm know if they will you know how they travel with large distances if your neighbors have had some issues hmm can I just say it would be prudent hmm to look a regime arena look at your own defenses in terms of time I check your own backyard so to speak yeah I'm not in my backyard okay tremendous all right well anyway best thing to do is obviously take action by first of all calling conquer termites nor slide that phone number Allen conquer termites Northside three three five six eight eight zero one.
