How to get rid of black ants?

Hundreds of tiny, black, scurrying, food stealing & annoying black house ants! They come back in force every year with the warmer weather and the afternoon showers. They are searching your house for food, especially of the sweet variety and for shelter. Check out the video below, it only takes them seconds to devour this portion of cake!

But what can you do to keep them at bay?

Here's 5 things we recommend to keep black ants away from your house:

Create a solid physical barrier: seal up gaps in windows, doors, and brick work that could be allowing entry into your home, it best to use silicone, putty, glue or plaster.
Clean with vinegar: its smell disrupts ants scent trails, which they use when foraging, meaning that other ants in the colony won't follow. Spray all benches/counters used to prepare/store food.
Find their nests and use boiling water to inundate them. This will eliminate members of the colony who aren't out foraging and should reduce their numbers quite significantly.
Block their pathways using chalk, they get covered in the residue and their scent trails become void.
