Timber stumps are often times popular breeding grounds for termites. Termites are subterranean and with many older Brisbane homes built on solid timber stumps, they form attractive access points to the remainder of your home. Timber stumps are of critical importance in ensuring the weight of your home is supported, maintaining its height off the ground. Alan explains that termites generally run up the stumps causing damage to support beams and sub-flooring. Alan shares video footage of a recent inspection of a New Farm (QLD) home, where evidence is found of termite activity along the side of a timber stumps. Alan also informs us that homeowners are misconceived about the purpose of timber steel capping, in thinking that they form protective barriers from the threat of termites. Alan stresses that this simply isn't the case, as displayed in the video.
